June Themes and Reflections

June Themes and Reflections

This month we’re focusing less on reflections and more on the theme of summer. And specifically, what to do with your summer in Maine. Maine summers are known for their picturesque harbor views, long beach days, lobster bakes and outdoor adventures. Here are some of our favorite things to do in Maine with kids:

Family Fun Day, Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Scheduled for June 8th this year, Family Fun day is one of our most coveted events to attend.  Set in beautiful Fort Williams Park, the day includes games and activities for kids with food, fireworks and live music into the evening hours.

Maine Wildlife Park Gray, Maine

This park is home to over 30 species of Maine wildlife which cannot be returned to their natural habitat. If you want to see a Moose you’re guaranteed a sighting here. The animals end up at the Wildlife Park because they were injured or orphaned, and others because they are human dependent – raised, sometimes illegally, in captivity. It’s a fun few hours to wander through the park with kids and learn about all the animals present.

Palace Playland, Old Orchard Beach, Maine

If you’re looking for a change from the more natural aspects of a Maine summer, you can head to Old Orchard Beach for games, rides and carnival style food.

Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine

There is so much to do in Acadia we couldn’t possibly list it all here, but we love camping at Blackwoods. A hike around Jordan Pond is also a must do and you can finish with a bite to eat at the Jordan Pond House restaurant.

Hiking, Harpswell, Maine

There’s over 500,000 acres of preserved land and hiking trails in Maine with the most amazing views. One of our favorite places to hike right now is in Harpswell.

Shopping, Boothbay, Maine

We love small businesses so of course we have a little bit of shopping on the list. Boothbay is known for its quaint shops and boutiques including local crafts and souvenirs, even the locals love shopping here.

Puffin cruises

Ever heard of a Puffin cruise? These cruises take visitors to see puffins in their natural habitat on remote islands off the coast of Maine letting kids see these seabirds up close. It’s a great family activity and lets kids connect with nature.

Ice Cream- South Portland and Cape Elizabeth, Maine

You can’t have summer without ice cream. Two of our family’s favorites (and everyone else's) are Willard Scoops in South Portland and Kettle Cove Creamery in Cape Elizabeth. Another great way to support local businesses and enjoy Maine’s culinary delights.

Berry Picking, Maxwell Farms, Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Visit Maxwell Farms for a fun and interactive experience. We love picking strawberries this time of year and it’s fun for the whole family, little ones included!
