October Themes: Maternity Products for Winter Activities
Staying active during pregnancy was the motivation behind creating Arctic Lynx. It’s something our founder was passionate about herself and then became passionate about sharing with others. This month, as fall settles in and many of us start to plan (or pray) for snow, our blog is focusing on maternity products that our collective experience found complement outdoor winter activities.
If you love being outside, like we do, we found that bib style snow pants work really well during pregnancy. A few of us also borrowed bib style snow pants from our partners which were a bigger size than our usual size. Sometimes going bigger in size doesn’t work well because the snowpants can be too long. Using this hack for light to moderate activities can work really well. Our group used this when hiking, snowshoeing or cross country skiing.
For those who are expecting and spending longer periods of time outside, a good jacket is a must have. Our founder, Michelle, often wore a jacket that was a size larger than her usual size. “Using a size bigger jacket worked for me because my belly wasn’t very big and it was an older jacket that I had never given away or donated.” You can also use the MakeMyBellyFit Universal Jacket Extender which can work with your existing jacket. Or check out Patagonia’s WornWear page where you can find Patagonia jackets at a reduced price. A jacket with a double zipper can often be helpful as your belly grows.
Our team member, Lyndsey, did some rock climbing(because winter doesn’t always mean snow) while pregnant and spent money on Arctic Lynx baselayers. “The things closest to my skin felt important to have fit well and be made for me.” We couldn’t agree more. 😀 However, sometimes you can continue to wear your non-maternity baselayers also. The impact of a good quality baselayer is immeasurable in keeping you warm and dry while you’re outside.
We have a customer who shared with us that one of her favorite hacks was using a hair tie to keep her jeans up and we loved this idea. You can put the hair tie over the button and then loop it through the opening on the other side of your pants. So if you don’t want to buy something new this is a great hack for pants that use a button closure.
Keeping your feet and hands warm is also key to staying comfortable and active while outside. We all loved wool socks for keeping our feet warm in a good, quality boot. Darn Tough Vermont makes great wool socks that come with a lifetime guarantee!
We write this blog knowing that we all have different priorities in our lives and differing values around where we can and want to spend our money. Remember it’s ok to spend money on yourself while pregnant. If you can’t or don’t want to, that’s ok too. We hope our few tips help you stay active and adventurous throughout your pregnancy!

The Arctic Lynx Team
